Adventure Wedding Experiences Intimate Wedding and Elopement Photographers
Cara & Ben
When Travis and I decided to start the next chapter of our lives in 2017, aka van life, we wanted to sort of “reset” my business. The first thing we did was add Travis to Lauren Fletcher Photography. Going forward we would photograph weddings together and create an experience for our clients. We didn’t want to be just another wedding photography team, we wanted to share our creativity and passion for the outdoors with the couples we work with. The second thing we did was revisit my business plan. I wanted to shift my business and venture into a different niche, elopements and small weddings. I spent the last six years photographing extravagant weddings in the New England area, but something was missing. As much as I loved photographing those weddings, I personally felt like I was lacking creativity and feeling discouraged about my art. I love wedding photography so much, I didn’t want to be just another wedding photographer in the New England scene.
We knew that van life and living on the road full time would be a key tool in the success to my new business approach. Networking with other photographers, exploring locations and that I dreamed about photographing in, photographing in those locations and reaching out to other creatives/adventurers to trade services were just a few things we did on the road. It took a lot of work and confidence to slowly make my way into the niche I so badly wanted to be a part of. Not only did van life help, but so did the time we took researching way to better my business.
Last year while sitting in Yosemite Valley, I got an email from a bride looking for an elopement photographer. She found me on Pinterest, and shared her excitement about eloping in Acadia National Park. We connected over our love for the outdoors, hiking and the National Parks. I was so incredibly excited that I booked my first National Park elopement. After booking Cara and Ben’s Acadia National Park Elopement, we booked another elopement in Joshua Tree National Park, and one in Breckenridge, Colorado. After months of crafting my ideal business, we are booking more and more weddings we are stoked about.
The day before Cara + Ben’s Wedding, we met up at their ceremony location, Sand Beach and scouted for the perfect spot to have their ceremony. Later that night we joined them for dinner and beers, and met some of their family. They said ‘I do’ surrounded by their favorite people along the shore line at Sand Beach in Acadia National Park. After their beautiful ceremony, Cara’s dad popped a bottle of champagne and toasted to the newlyweds.
Wedding Portraits at Thunder Hole and Otter Cliff | Acadia National Park
After some bubbly and snacks, the four of us and Denali jumped in our van and ventured around Acadia. We stopped at a few pull offs in hopes of finding a clear area free of tourists to photograph Cara and Ben. We were lucky to find an area at Thunder Hole and Otter Cliff, two areas with breathtaking views. We played some tunes and photographed C + B dancing to one of their favorite songs. One of things I try and do at every wedding is step back and take in the landscape, the couple and the moments that are happening in front of me. We are so fortunate to be a part of a couple’s wedding day.
Sunset at Jordan Pond | Acadia National Park
Cara and Ben were so sweet and invited us to join them and their family for dinner. Before dinner we took some family portraits and portraits of C + B near Jordan Pond. As the sunset behind Jordan Lake, we ran out and caught the last light. It was beautiful.
Sunrise Portraits on Cadillac Mountain | Acadia National Park
Cara and Ben love Cadillac Mountain and were finding it difficult to incorporate portraits at their favorite location on the day of their wedding. They opted to do a sunrise session the day after at Cadillac Mountain. Travis and I woke up around 5am and drove to the summit where we met Cara and Ben. We grabbed hats, jackets and blankets and found the perfect spot away from the crowded mountain top. If you aren’t familiar with Cadillac Mountain, it’s the first spot the sun touches on the east coast. The sunrise was absolutely incredible and we captured some incredible photos of Cara and Ben.
Travis and I can’t thank these two enough for allowing us to be a part of such an intimate time. They made our elopement dreams come true, and I think it’s safe to say we made their elopement dreams come true, too!
