We wanted to take the time to thank all of you for your support. 2021 was a wild year, with Elopements in some of our favorite locations. Colorado, California, and Maine are just three of the beautiful states we had the pleasure of photographing elopements in this past year. Next year is looking even better! When we left the east coast in 2018, our goal was to move the business out west, and it has been an incredible adventure. We are grateful to be able to explore this country with our couples and capture their love stories. 2022 is looking to be our best year yet!

2021 at a Glance

In short, 2021 was the year we learned the most about ourselves and our business. We shot some incredible elopements in Maine, California, and Colorado. We went from living in Denver to driving across the country to pick up a vintage Airstream. We spent time with our family and friends back home. We accomplished a lot, but more importantly, we learned a lot.

Looking Back

In May of 2020, Love, Lorraine was born thanks to an incredible rebrand from our friends Dynamo Ultima. We were living in Colorado with Lauren’s family, living through the pandemic and navigating those challenges with our clients and our lifestyle. We still had our van, but we wanted to try living in Colorado for good. Fast forward to November of 2020, we moved everything we owned (which was very little) to Colorado! This was the real start for Love, Lorraine. After an incredible 6 months living just outside of Denver, we were forced to make a decision, resign our lease or find what was next. In a short period of time, we decided to leave Denver at the end of June 2021, and drove across the country to pick up a vintage Airstream. We spent all of July and August working hard to get the Airstream renovation started, and we quickly realized how big of a project it truly is. Taking a bit of a break from the project in the fall, we traveled to Colorado and California to shoot some incredible weddings and elopements.

This entire experience was humbling. It taught us many things, first and foremost that the Airstream is no small project and far exceeds that of building a van. Secondly, we learned over the few months we spent back east that we couldn’t continue to be east for long periods of time. It was hurting the efficiency of our business, as we had to travel (via plane) more than we would consider ideal. Lastly, we realized that we had to put our business first and stop waiting for it to “happen”. This was the biggest eye opener of the year, we needed to dig into the business and make it our guiding light. We learned from all of these experiences, and we are now making plans for 2022 with all of these things in mind! We are entirely grateful to our family, our friends and our clients for supporting us through 2021.

The Turning Point

It all happened this past Spring. We had been living in Denver for about 6 months, and we started having conversations about what was next for us. Our lease was about to be up, and we were wondering if it was time to settle down and buy a house. Did we think Denver was the right place for us? In late April, we decided to take a trip to Moab to meet up with our friends and fellow elopement photographers, The Foxes. This trip changed our perspective on many things. Being out in Moab reminded us that we loved to travel, that we missed living on the road, and that we loved the far away places that brought us so much inspiration. It made us question living in a busy city, it challenged us to consider life on the road again, and it pushed us to pursue another project. All of which we are grateful to have experienced and will never regret.

It wasn’t that we didn’t like our living situation, or even Denver for that matter. We love Denver! It was that we were craving something more out of the life we had been living for the past 6 months. What that “more” looked like, we were still unsure at the time. We took a chance and ended our lease, drove across the country to spend some time with family and start our new project. This time back east has shown us that being out west full time is the only way that we want to live our lives. Whether we are traveling or finding roots in Colorado, we understand the opportunities presented to us are in our favor when we are out west!

What Lies Ahead

At the moment of writing this, we are enjoying time with family for the holidays on the east coast, all while working hard on the business and preparing for another successful year of travel and weddings. As of now, the Airstream has been completely gutted, the frame has been repaired and painted, the new subfloor is installed, and we are now just finalizing the exterior sealing in preparation for winter.

While we still aren’t entirely sure what 2022 will actually bring, what we do know is that we need to live in Colorado and continue riding the success of our business. We are going to prioritize this aspect of our lives next year and continue chasing the dream. Our first to-do of 2022 is to get back to Colorado! For the next two weeks we are going to finish our east coast adventure with a visit to see some family in North Carolina, all while preparing the Airstream for the road. Once in Colorado, we plan to spend some time with Lauren’s family north of Denver as we navigate our opportunities. This rough plan all shares a common goal, get back to Colorado and continue to work with our incredible couples.

2021 was one heck of a year for Love, Lorraine. We are STOKED for 2022 and to share what’s in store for Love, Lorraine!
