Earlier this year we quickly realized the slim likelihood of our big summer wedding happening the way we envisioned. We spent a couple of weeks feeling sad and cheated; allowing ourselves to feel this way while also remaining grateful for our health was crucial in moving onward, which is what we did.
This year was a true reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly and dramatically things can change. Knowing that and seeing my dad's health the best it has been in 18 months, postponing our marriage wasn't an option.
Once we officially decided to pivot our plans to a smaller and more intimate wedding we began feeling excited again. We decided from that point on to make sure our "Plan B" felt more like a "Plan A." We found an airbnb in our favorite state that spoke to us and just like that we began planning our new wedding plan for our 12 closest family members and friends. Same dress, same suit, same intention, same love, same marriage.
We hope to celebrate our marriage next summer with all our loved ones with many drinks and lots of dancing. But as we've learned this year, no plans are promised and we are both content in knowing that regardless of what happens we get to marry each other now and everything else is just icing.
