Van Life Adventures

When discussing our plans for Christmas 2018 and the New Year, Lauren and I decided that this was a good time for change. We left our traditions behind and headed West a week prior to Christmas. While we realize this may sound terrible to some, we knew that change would push us to have the best year of our lives. We are off to a great start!

Read on to see more of our first month of 2019 exploring the mountains of Colorado.

Mount Sanitas | January 9

Looking for a great hike for dogs and people alike? Mount Sanitas offers incredible views of the mountains to the west and the plains to the east. It is a short, strenuous hike with steep elevation gain. “Sanitas” is latin for “health”, and this hike will definitely challenge your health! If you are ever in Boulder looking for some outdoor activity, this is a great option!

Steamboat Springs | January 3-6

The mountain towns of Colorado are really as charming and as beautiful as they are described. Steamboat Springs did not disappoint. Hot springs, a ski resort, and a cute downtown make this place a perfect weekend getaway in the mountains. After meeting Kyle and Lindsey at Storm Peak Brewing, we were quick to make plans for our time in the town. It’s great to meet other van lifers, because our mindsets are always pretty similar. After visiting Strawberry Hot Springs, we spent the day on a random and lucky snowshoe trail we found. We decided to have a little picnic, with crack cheese (if you know, you know), wine in a box, beers from the local brewery and skis and snowboards for some good ol’ backcountry rides.

Frisco & Vail Pass | January 13-15

All the van life friends! Apparently we can fit 8 people, AND 3 dogs in our van! We had already visited Outer Range Brewing Co earlier in the month, and knew we wanted to share this place with our van friends. After visiting the brewery we hosted all of these great humans in our van for a late night hang sesh. We love you guys, and dogs!

Aspen Snowmass | January 17-19

A last minute Mountain Collective pass purchase with @louellathevan may have been the best decision we have made in 2019 thus far. Lauren and I both have a love for snowboarding, and it was time for us to explore and conquer some of the beautiful mountains in Colorado and beyond. We started our season off in Aspen, at Snowmass. We can not recommend this place enough! With beautiful views and unlimited terrain, it’s no wonder Aspen is a staple in the Colorado resort conversation. There are plenty of runs for beginners and experts, and everything in between. We found a great wide open run called “Dallas Freeway” and found it hard to explore more of the mountain. We spent all of our Thursday morning on this run. The girls worked on turns and got into a groove in the middle on the groomers while Kyle and I enjoyed a fresh 6 inches of powder on either side of the run. The beauty of this run was that it offered a little bit of everything for everyone; some trees to play in, both powder and groomers, some steep sections for speed, and the best of all, it had its own lift. We miss you already, Aspen Snowmass!

Sugarloaf Mountain | January 30

Most recently we were fortunate to take photos of our friends Lexi and Cody at Sugarloaf Mountain. These two have been living on the road for a couple years now, and they are the original digital nomads of Van Life. They run a digital branding company from their beautiful home on wheels. These two were a huge inspiration when it came to building our van, and even running a business on the road! They offer tons of educational material and content that is invaluable to starting your own business.

Check them out on instagram! @dynamoultima You can also find a van tour of their home and much more van life content on their YouTube channel!
